VOCABULARY – PHRASES WITH ON

• on board – a bordo
Example: There were 200 passengers on board the aircraft.

• on display – expuesto
Example: The new technology was on display at the exhibition.

• on purpose – a propósito
Example: He didn't break the glass on purpose.

• on sale – en oferta / a la venta
Example: The laptops are on sale this week.

• on time – puntual / a tiempo

GRAMMAR – THE PASSIVE

We use the passive when the action is more important than the person who does it.

Active

• Someone built the bridge in 1950.

Passive

• The bridge was built in 1950.

Structure

• Subject + be + past participle

Present Simple Passive

• am / is / are + past participle

Examples

• The museum is visited by thousands of tourists.

Past Simple Passive

• was / were + past participle

• The building was designed by a famous architect.
• The tickets were sold in one day.

Future Passive

• will be + past participle

• The results will be announced tomorrow.

DIALOGUE – AT A MUSEUM

Anna: Were many visitors there?

Mark: Yes, the museum was visited by hundreds of people.

Anna: How did you get there?

Mark: I travelled on my own and explored the area on foot afterwards.

Last weekend, a new science exhibition was opened in the city centre. Several innovative inventions were put on display, and thousands of visitors attended the event. Many products were presented by international companies, while some prototypes were developed by university students. Special discounts were offered because several items were on sale during the exhibition. Visitors were welcomed on board a virtual reality experience that simulated space travel. The event was organised successfully, and everything was completed on time. After the exhibition, the city centre was explored on foot by many tourists who wanted to discover local attractions.
