WARM UP
Think about films and TV.
• What is the best film you have watched recently?
• Who is your favourite director?

Answer in full sentences.
VOCABULARY – FILM
• come out – be released to the public
Example: The new film will come out next month.
• animated – made using animation instead of real actors
Example: My favourite animated film is Inside Out.
• performance – the way an actor performs in a film or play
Example: Her performance was outstanding.
• role – the character an actor plays
Example: He played the main role in the film.
• appear – be seen in a film or programme
Example: Several famous actors appear in the series.
• directed – managed the making of a film

• director – the person who controls how a film is made

GRAMMAR – REPORTED SPEECH
We use reported speech to tell someone what another person said.
Present → Past
• "I like this film."
→ She said that she liked the film.
• "I am watching a movie."
→ He said that he was watching a movie.
Past → Past Perfect
• "I watched it yesterday."
→ She said that she had watched it the day before.
Will → Would
• "The film will come out soon."
→ The director said that the film would come out soon.
Can → Could
• "You can watch it online."
→ He said that I could watch it online.

DIALOGUE – AFTER THE CINEMA

Mark: Yes. She said that he had directed another great film.
Anna: Will she watch it again?
Mark: She said that she would definitely watch it again.

After watching the film, my friends said that it was one of the best releases of the year. One reviewer even said that the director had created a modern classic. By the end of the weekend, thousands of people had recommended the film online.
