Target Adjectives: Popular, Active, Lazy, Helpful, Funny, Creative, Polite, Friendly, Quiet, Kind

Goal: Use adjectives to describe people and practise talking about yourself and others.

1. Warm-Up (3 min)

Questions (say more than one sentence!):

  1. Who is a kind person you know? What do they do that is kind?
    Sample answer: “My mum is kind. She helps my neighbours and cooks for them sometimes.”

  2. Do you think you are funny or quiet? Why?
    Sample answer: “I’m quiet. I don’t talk a lot, but sometimes I make my friends laugh.”

Who do you like talking to more — quiet or funny people? Why?

2. Presentation (5 min)

Examples & Simple Meanings:

  • Popular → many people like this person

    “She’s popular. Everyone wants to sit with her.”

  • Active → likes to move, play, or do things

    “He’s active. He plays football every day.”

  • Lazy → doesn’t like to work or move much

    “I feel lazy on Sundays. I just watch TV.”

  • Helpful → likes to help people

    “She’s helpful. She helps her classmates with homework.”

  • Funny → makes people laugh

    “My uncle is funny. He tells good jokes.”

  • Creative → makes or thinks of new things

    “She’s creative. She designs her own clothes.”

  • Polite → says “please” and “thank you”

    “He’s polite. He opens the door for others.”

  • Friendly → kind and nice to other people

    “Our teacher is friendly. She smiles a lot.”

  • Quiet → doesn’t talk much

    “He’s quiet, but he listens carefully.”

  • Kind → wants to do good things for others

    “It’s kind to help someone who is sad.”

  • Do you think you are helpful or lazy? Give an example.

  • What makes someone popular?

  • Do you like quiet people or talkative people more? Why?
