WARM UP

Think about conversations.

VOCABULARY – WORDS WITH TWO MEANINGS

catch – coger / atrapar

• Meaning 1: to grab → I catch the ball. (Yo atrapo la pelota.)
• Meaning 2: to take transport → I catch the bus. (Yo cojo el autobús.)

come – venir

• Meaning 1: to move here → Please come here. (Por favor, ven aquí.)
• Meaning 2: to arrive → The train comes at 6 p.m. (El tren viene a las 6.)

get – recibir / llegar / conseguir

• Meaning 1: to receive → I get an email. (Yo recibo un correo.)
• Meaning 2: to arrive → I get home at 7 p.m. (Yo llego a casa a las 7.)

meet – conocer / quedar con

• Meaning 1: to know someone for the first time → I meet new people. (Yo conozco gente nueva.)
• Meaning 2: to see someone you know → I meet my friend after work. (Yo quedo con mi amigo después del trabajo.)

see – ver

• Meaning 1: to use your eyes → I see a bird. (Yo veo un pájaro.)
• Meaning 2: to visit → I see my doctor on Monday. (Yo veo a mi médico el lunes.)

think – pensar / creer

• Meaning 1: to have an idea → I think about my homework. (Yo pienso en mis deberes.)
• Meaning 2: to have an opinion → I think English is important. (Yo creo que el inglés es importante.)

Say each word and both meanings out loud.

GRAMMAR – WH-QUESTIONS (who, what, where, when, how often, why)

We use wh-questions to ask for information.

who → asks about a person
what → asks about a thing
where → asks about a place
when → asks about time
how often → asks about frequency
why → asks for a reason

Structure:

Wh-word + do/does + subject + verb

Where do you meet your friends?
Why does she come late?

DIALOGUE – ASKING WH-QUESTIONS

Anna: Where do you meet your friends?
Mark: I meet them at the café.

Anna: When do you see them?
Mark: I see them on Friday.

Anna: Why do you come early?
Mark: Because I think it is important.

Read again and change the wh-questions and verbs.
