WARM UP

Think about your town or city.

• What places are near your home?
• Is there a park near you?
• Are there any restaurants in your area?
• Do you go to the supermarket often?
• Which place in your town is your favourite? Why?

Answer in full sentences.

VOCABULARY – PLACES IN TOWN

Places (Part 1)

hospital – hospital
Example: There is a hospital near my house.

museum – museo
Example: The museum is very interesting.

cinema – cine
Example: I go to the cinema on weekends.

bank – banco
Example: The bank is next to the station.

hotel – hotel
Example: This hotel is very big.

university – universidad
Example: The university is in the city centre.

Place description (Part 2)

beautiful – bonito
Example: The park is beautiful.

Example: The hospital is important.

interesting – interesante
Example: The museum is interesting.

GRAMMAR – IS THERE / ARE THERE + PLACE PREPOSITIONS

We use is there and are there to talk about places.

• Use Is there + singular
• Use Are there + plural

We also use place words:

inside, outside, above, below, near

I live in a small town. There is a park near my house, and it is very beautiful. There is also a supermarket and a bank. The restaurant near the station is cheap and very good. There is a museum in the town centre, and it is very interesting. There are two hotels near the university. The area is very safe, and I like living here.

Read the article twice. Focus on is there and are there.
