WARM UP

Think about people.

• Can you describe a person near you?
• Do they have short hair or dark hair?
• Are they tall or short?
• Are they young or old?
• What do they look like?

Answer in full sentences.

VOCABULARY – PEOPLE DESCRIPTION

Describing people

• beautiful eyes – ojos bonitos
Example: She has beautiful eyes.

• big ears – orejas grandes
Example: He has big ears.

• a brown beard – barba marrón
Example: He has a brown beard.

• fat – gordo
Example: The man is fat.

• dark hair – pelo oscuro
Example: She has dark hair.

• old – mayor / viejo
Example: The man is old.

• a red nose – nariz roja
Example: He has a red nose.

• short – bajo
Example: She is short.

• short hair – pelo corto
Example: He has short hair.

• slim – delgado
Example: She is slim.

• tall – alto
Example: He is tall.

• young – joven
Example: She is young.

GRAMMAR – TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE IN A PICTURE

We use simple structures to describe people in pictures.

• Use He/She is… for general description
• Use He/She has… for physical features
• Use He/She is wearing… for clothes

Examples

• He is tall and slim.
• She is young and has dark hair.
• He has a brown beard and big ears.
• She has beautiful eyes and short hair.

• He is wearing a jacket and trousers.
• She is wearing a dress and shoes.
• He is wearing glasses.
• She is wearing a T-shirt.

DIALOGUE – DESCRIBING A PERSON

Anna: Who is that person?
Mark: He is tall and slim.

Anna: What does he look like?
Mark: He has dark hair and a brown beard.

Anna: What is he wearing?
Mark: He is wearing a jacket and trousers.

Anna: And the woman?
Mark: She is short and young. She has beautiful eyes.

In the picture, there are two people. The man is tall and slim. He has dark hair and a brown beard. He is wearing a jacket and trousers. The woman is short and young. She has short hair and beautiful eyes. She is wearing a dress and shoes. They look happy.
