We use have got to talk about possession.

Affirmative

  • He has got a mirror.

  • She has got a wardrobe.

Negative

  • I haven’t got a chair.

  • He hasn’t got a lamp.

Questions

  • Have you got a bed?

  • Has she got a mirror?

Short Answers

  • Yes, I have. / No, I haven’t.

  • Yes, he has. / No, he hasn’t.

DIALOGUE – TALKING ABOUT A BEDROOM

Two friends talking about their rooms.

A: Have you got a desk in your room?
B: Yes, I have. I’ve got a big desk near the window.

A: Have you got a lamp?
B: Yes, I have. I’ve got a lamp on my desk.

A: Have you got a wardrobe?
B: No, I haven’t. I’ve got a small mirror on the door.
