We use prepositions of place to describe position.

on

between

  • The nose is between the eyes.

  • The mouth is between the nose and the chin.

under

  • The mouth is under the nose.

  • The chin is under the mouth.

next to

  • The ear is next to the eye.

Doctor: Is it between your hand and your elbow?
Patient: No, it’s between my hand and my arm.

Doctor: Does your ankle hurt?
Patient: No, my ankle is fine, but my shoulder hurts.
