Explanation

The simple present tense is used to talk about:

  1. Habits or routines: I eat breakfast at 8 a.m.

  2. General truths: The Earth goes around the Sun.

  3. Facts that don’t change: Water boils at 100 degrees.

Forming the Simple Present

  • For most verbs: add -s only in the 3rd person singular (he, she, it).

    • I cook → He cooks

    • We play → She plays

  • If a verb ends in -s, -sh, -ch, -x, or -o, add -es.

    • I watch → He watches

    • I go → She goes

  • If a verb ends in consonant + y, change y → ies.

    • I study → He studies

  • I play the guitar.

Exercise 2 – Identify the Use

Decide if the sentences show something that is:
A. Always true
B. Generally true (habit/routine)

  1. The Sun rises in the east.

  2. I eat breakfast at 7:30 every day.

  3. Cats like milk.

  4. My brother studies French on Mondays.

  5. Water freezes at 0 degrees.

Exercise 3 – Fill in the Blanks

Choose the correct verb form.
